SSCC #14 Give Thanks

It's time for another Sunday challenge at Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenges. We are very honored to have our very first sponsor, Our Daily Bread Designs, back again and donating this fabulous Christmas stamp set just in time to make some beautiful cards for the holidays!
This will go to one random player and it could be waiting for you! I know this week will be super busy with the holidays and such, but I do hope you'll take the time to come join us in fellowship and enjoy our DT's inspiration and be uplifted up by the Word of God.

Our hostess this week is my sweet friend HelenPhelps who picked this verse for today's inspired challenge: Galatians 6:9 "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

Her challenge for us is to make a Thanksgiving card, or a card to thank someone.

A thought on this verse... I think we've all been there haven't we? Growing tired of doing good, and sometimes it's harder than other times. It might be easy when what we do is well received and we get praises and thanksgiving, but those times when the good we're doing becomes monotonous and thankless, when friends have seemed to disappear or people you felt safe with suddenly turn on you and snap at you, it's much harder. I've had one of those weeks. Ironic thing is that when it comes to card-making, I don't usually give up... I keep trying until I'm satisfied and would be proud to display it on my blog. But when it comes to difficult people situations, it's easy for me to withdrawl and give up and say, "I don't need this... I think I'm doing what the Lord wants me to do and these people are so hard to work with and it's so frustrating." But the Lord tells us "do not grow weary of doing good, for we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Easier said than done, but with God all things are possible and He gives us the strength for each new day. It's amazing what God is doing through our challenge blog. Bringing scriptures and challenges at just the right time. He knew someone (me this time) needed this verse this week.

On to my card... maybe the personal stuff has affected my creative juices or something because this weekend has not been my most creative. I think whatever mojo I might've had took a flying leap somewhere. I just wasn't happy with anything that I was creating. But even though I made more "throw-aways" than keepers, I did not give up, Lol. So, after I uploaded my first card (below) I went searching for something else I could do... something with an image I could color perhaps... and then I came across this really great site with cute digis called "Sew Many Cards." I downloaded this cute Donkey and Turkey image and love the way this one came out. My kids found a pack of feathers after I colored my image, so they don't match exactly, but I just HAD to use em anyways.

I'm looking forward to thanksgiving with mom and dad this year. I'm thankful for family that lives close by so we can get together for holidays and such. I'm also thankful for all my friends including all of you... my blog friends! Thanks for visiting me every so often and chatting when you do.

Here was my first card. The wreath stamp is by Verve and is prettier than I made it look, LOL - but I'm sure my mom will like it though, so this one's going to her.

I will leave you with a request... a silent prayer request. We all need lifting up in prayer at times and although it seems a little weird at times to ask it for myself or my family, sometimes we just need to ask. So, thank you... in advance. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday.

Holiday Greetings at KLSNS

After several failed attempts at a card last night, I finally ended up with this card. This is about my 3rd sketch and 2nd coloring of the image. Things just weren't working for me yesterday. So I decided to stickle her dress, horn and wings and call it good! LOL - *sigh* ♫ My mama said there'll be days like this ♫ ...oh, sorry! LOL! I followed this sketch by Friday Sketchers:
The stamp I used is from KL Stampin' N Scrappin' called Sugarplums Angel Emma. I love all the CC Designs stamps and digis. There are 2 other Emmas in this set plus a couple of sentiments as well. Kelly also has some sweet Christmas pixies, some Itsy Inkies, and High Hopes Christmas stamps and several Basic Grey sets as well. If you're looking to buy some Christmas pressies for a stampin' friend or relative this would be a great time to order at KLSNS as you can save $5 on your order of $30! Just use coupon code NOV5 when checking out :)

Woven Basket and BLOG CANDY

La La Weekly Wednesday Challenge:
" Make a Thank You Card or Project"

It's Wonderful Wednesday again... time for another FUN challenge in LaLa Land! This will be such an easy challenge this week that I don't know I could actually call it a "challenge" LOL - we all make Thank You cards don't we? Well, instead of a card this week I decided to challenge myself to make a thanksgiving project. I've made one of these woven baskets before, but it's been quite a while. Here's my previous post with link to a tutorial. (never mind my Halloweeny colors... I prefer to think of them as HARVEST colors and I plan on putting this on the side table for Thanksgiving this year for all to enjoy!)

OOO... there's BLOG CANDY at La La Land Crafts this week!! Look at this fabulous array of stampy goodness that could be yours!! Just come on over and enter this week's challenge! Remember, you don't have to use LaLa Land stamps, (but if you have them, we'd like to see em!)

This stamp is called Pumpkin LaLa... and is one of my faves. Isn't she cute? OOOH, I just remembered I was suppose to make some thank you cards for the volunteers at church who put on our Harvest Party! ... I better get on that! Wheeee! I think my head is still spinning a bit from all the festivities going on this last weekend here in blogland! Well, if I'm productive these next few days I'll have some TY cards to show you by the end of this week! LOL

So come on over and show us some Thank You cards or other projects and enter to win this gift package!! Contest closes Sunday night!

SSCC #13 - Shadow Box Cards

Happy Sunday Morning!! It's time for another fun card challenge at Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenges!

Peggysue is our hostess this week and has chosen this scripture: "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known." 1 Corinthians 13:12 (KJV)

Our challenge is to create a shadow box card! Peggysue says, "No more shadows, no more dim reflections when we get to heaven!" (Here's a link to a tutorial on SCS for a shadow box card. And here's Laura's tutorial for an alternate style of shadowbox card you might like.)

Our sponsor this week is Layers of Color!! Perfect timing as they are having a New Release stamps party all weekend and has very graciously donated this beautiful set, "Butterfly Collection" for one random player in our challenge!

Laura (owner of LOC) has been soo wonderful to work with these past couple of weeks behind the scenes. Very sweet and I just have to mention, she so graciously donated this brand new release clear stamp set to myself and my other 2 Sr. Design Team members, Lisa and Kathy! A Huge Thank You Laura for your generosity!! Here's what I made with this beautiful set:

I (once again) used my favorite Hickory strips (McMahon Five Designs) to make a window frame. The larger butterfly is 2-toned with rust and ruby red and stamped on designer paper. I folded the side flaps in and taped together and hid the seem with some wide celery satin ribbon and tied on top. It also helps hold the "valance" on.

For the butterflies on this next one, I stamped them in versamark on white cardstock and sponged chalks on (Poppin' Pastels technique). This verse is a "Plain Jane" by Verve Stamps. And yes, I have a 3rd one too! LOL - call me ambitious... that's me! I am not quite finished with this one... it still needs a sentiment on the front. That's where I got stumped. I hate to cover up the pretty paper, but it feels incomplete to me, so I'll think about it some more. Any ideas? :)

Hope you'll come on over and see what all our Design Sisters have made this week and get inspired to make YOUR OWN shadow box card!! You could WIN this fabulous butterfly collection of stamps! ☺

STAMPS: Butterfly Collection (Layers of Color); Plain Jane verse by Verve.

A {Prettie} Easel Birthday Card

YAY, it's the weekend, and full of fun surprises and prizes!! But I'll get to that later. My daughter is going to a birthday party this afternoon so I whipped up a card for her to take. My sister and I sometimes do our own personal "sister challenges" and it's been a while since we've done one, so last night we decided to both use our SOTM club stamp from Paper Pretties! Isn't she cute? Hop on over to Kathy's blog to see what she made with this Make a Wish Sophia! (after you finish reading mine first of course! *wink*)

This is called an "easel card" and I have no idea what kind of tutorial there might be out there because I didn't use one. I've been seeing these cards all over lately, and when you see the side of the card, you can pretty much figure out that you score your card front in half and then on the outside top of card, add tape to just the half that's closest to the opening of the card. Then add your seperate, decorated piece. I'm guessing that's how they did it?! LOL - of course you need something bulky to hold the "easel" in place after it's open, so I used buttons.

I used this Paper Pretties stamp called "Make a Wish Sophia" and all my decorative papers came from Paper Pretties too! In fact, they have a ton of really cute papers over there as well as stamps and other embellishments! Want a chance to WIN a free stamp set from Paper Pretties? Christie is sponsoring us at Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenges this week, so head on over and enter to win!!

Tomorrow morning starts a fun Blog Hop, so I hope you'll join in on the fun for more fabulous prizes!!

Tomorrow is also my day to host the KLSNS blog, so you can find me here and there... a little bit of everywhere this weekend! Hope to see ya 'round! :)
